BRICKWORKS SAYS

Sitting on the ground floor of a majestic double-fronted building, this one-bedroom apartment has glorious proportions. From the expansive windows in the open-plan living room giving views over the trees that line the street outside, to the vertiginously high ceiling and ornate cornicing. This main living space is grand by any measure and a wonderful place to spend time. It's also adaptable to a variety of needs, so you can configure (and reconfigure) your heart's content. The kitchen is connected via double doors, but it's possible to close them when cooking.

At the back of the home, the towering ceilings continue into the bedroom, enhancing the feeling of space. Light pours into here, too, through the double doors overlooking the communal garden. The sloped ceiling of the small but practical bathroom adds quirk and character with a pop of yellow.

Wickham Road is neatly positioned to enjoy the diverse joys of Brockley, from the green spaces of Hilly Fields to the independent shops along Colgate Street. But it’s also around the corner from Peckham with its roof bars, east of village-like Nunhead, and within touching distance of beautiful and historic Greenwich. And with Brockley Station just down the street, you can easily connect to National Rail and Overground, opening up direct routes to London Bridge and Brighton.

THE OWNERS SAY

We moved to Brockley on a bit of a whim, but it couldn't have turned out better! It's a lovely, leafy and friendly area. The flat is a short walk from Hilly Fields Park, with its brilliant café and the Overground station, so east and central London are within easy reach. We have been to the local Brockley market almost every Saturday since we have lived here and have enjoyed the uncomplicated access to Peckham, Greenwich and Blackheath.

If we could stay here in our flat forever, we probably would! We have held on as long as possible, and even though it’s unusually large for a one-bed, we hope to grow our family, so it's time to pass it on to someone new. With its high ceilings and big, bright rooms, we have been extremely happy here and have built good relationships with all our neighbours. It will be hard to leave an area we have grown to love so much.

4 Joyce

There’s nothing nicer than a post-walk tipple, and after a amble up Hilly Fields (the clue’s in the name) a slurp at Joyce’s will be well-deserved. A decent selection of drinks in a friendly neighbourhood bar, what could be nicer?

5 Dinner for 100

These guys know there stuff when it comes to mouth-watering pizza. They may have started operations out of their mum’s kitchen, but they’re serious about taste. There’s no scrimping on toppings, and the sourdough base is ideal for mopping up their delicious dips.
