BRICKWORKS SAYS

In the heart of Hackney, this inviting flat on a popular tree-lined street moments from Chatsworth Road is a lesson in calm, considered interiors. From the moment you step in, it’s a complete joy to walk up and around and see how modern touches - like the sleek plywood kitchen - work in harmony with the original details of the property, such as the beautifully restored floorboards in the hallway that lead through into the spacious open-plan living room.

The surprisingly living and dining space was cleverly expanded by the repositioning of an internal wall, adorned with a steel beam-cum-bookshelf – clever and aesthetically pleasing at the same time. And the focal open fireplace helps make the space feel cosy and intimate too. Along the corridor, two bedrooms, one double and one a little smaller (the perfect size for a nursery or study), and the recently-tiled bathroom continue the gentle theme at the back of the property, with matching ogee-style arch storage nooks in the bedrooms and soothing colours on the walls.

Rushmore Road is not only perfectly positioned for some of the best bars and entertainment that East London has to offer (The Castle Cinema and Nobody Asked Me wine bar; we’re looking at you!) but is enviably close to a wealth of green space, including Millfields Park, Hackney Marshes and Springfield Park, which offers up delicious sausage sarnies in the park cafe.

THE LEGAL BIT

While we endeavour to provide accurate photographs, floor plans, and descriptions, these should be intended as a guide. Total floor plan measurements are sometimes rounded for ease, and distances are approximated. Purchasers should always satisfy themselves through personal inspection.

THE OWNERS SAY

We love our flat and have enjoyed every minute of living on Rushmore Road. There's a real sense of community - you will get to know your neighbours, local shop owners and more, and we've built lifelong friendships here. The flat is really peaceful and when we first saw it, we were drawn immediately to the bright, light-filled living room and the fireplace.

Honestly, we can't recommend the area highly enough (and are slightly heartbroken to be leaving). Being a stone's throw from Chatsworth Road, you've got your pick of coffee shops, pubs, grocery shops and a cinema. Chatsworth Road Market runs every Sunday with food stalls and music. You can see why we rarely leave the area.

Top spots include Dorée & Co. Cafe, Triangle; a gorgeous concept store, The Elderfield Pub and Lucky & Joy; an innovative and utterly mouth-watering Chinese restaurant. The best bit about living here for us has to be the green space, with the Hackney Marshes, Olympic Park, Millfields Park and the Lea River canal on your doorstep.

Getting around:
Rushmore Road is a brilliant location in the middle of Hackney. Chatsworth Road with its wonderful collection of shops and cafes is at the end of the street, while the vast open spaces of the Hackney Marshes leading down the Olympic Park or up to the Walthamstow Wetlands, are just moments away by foot. Homerton is the closest station which is part of the London Overground network, and is a 15-minute walk away.

1 Jim’s Café

Superb, modern European restaurant on Chatsworth Rd, set up under the guidance of Nuno Mendes. Totally unpretentious on the outside, and totally delicious on the inside. Love.

2 Palm 2

Independent local grocery store that sells just about everything you could possibly need! Fantastic pastries, fresh bread, a fully stocked cheese counter and a good selection of organic wines, and a very friendly service to boot!

3 Dark Arts Coffee

Every neighbourhood needs decent coffee, and this is the go-to for those who take their coffee roasting seriously. Discover global flavours with a brew-at-home subscription, or show your allegiance with some Dark Arts merch.

4 Uchi

If you haven’t discovered this Japanese gem, it’s worth seeking it out. Deliciously fresh and beautifully simple, we haven’t found anything yet on the menu that disappoints. And don’t leave without trying the sesame ice cream!

5 Chesham Arms

A pub that inspires great passion amongst locals (the community came together to fend off developers) and you can see why. With decent beers, a wood burner and beer garden, it suits any weather and is the epitome of a friendly local. Long may it last.
