BRICKWORKS SAYS

Beautifully fusing the contemporary with an appreciation for its period roots, this Victorian home is full of delightful rooms. You’re greeted by beautiful stained glass and original ornate Minton tiles in the hallway. Spanning three floors and displaying understated style, there are spaces of calm and splashes of colour that bring it alive. The living space, thanks to soothing decor and bare wood, is an ideal spot for unwinding. The kitchen continues the tonal feel, creating a natural flow, accented by the inviting blue bay window that makes you want to take a pause.

Upstairs the bedrooms are well-sized and thoughtfully decorated, with a continuation of the painted and naked wood which binds the house together. Currently occupied by a live-in nanny, the loft room feels very spacious, and pleasingly separate, ready to be used as a stunning principle bedroom or hideaway for older children. The striking design of the Bert & May bathroom, complete with a wet room shower and roll-top bath, feels like total luxury. Storage is not something you’ll have to worry about in this house, with plenty of built-in cupboards to live happily clutter-free. Outside, the landscaped garden with recently reseeded grass, provides plenty of space to get green-fingered, and a lovely patio spot for soaking up the sun. At the end of the garden is a roomy garden shed, but the concrete slab could be repurposed by new owners to create a large studio or office.

It may be a quiet street, but Lordsmead Road is also close to much of Tottenham’s lauded vibrancy. Positioned perfectly to take advantage of everything Bruce Grove and South Tottenham have to offer, you’ve got interesting restaurants in Chuku’s or Pasero, and coffee shops like With Milk or the local Portuguese hangouts, and even a roller disco! Lordship Rec is just down the road, with plenty of space to stretch your legs and a skate park to keep the smalls (and not-so-smalls) busy.

THE OWNERS SAY

We love the secluded feeling of the loft bedroom and the gorgeous green bathroom - it feels a world away from the rest of the house, and the bustle of London!

There is gorgeous light in the kitchen, and the back doors make it easy for kids to spill into the garden whilst adults are able to socialise in the large dining space which in many ways has been our favourite aspect of the house. All of the storage we have added means we can squirrel away almost everything child-related to make for a calmer adult space at the end of the day!

Lordship Rec and Bruce Castle Park are evergreen weekend destinations for us, with great new additions such as With Milk, Perkyns, True Craft, and Yard Sale Pizza within walking distance, which we love.

landmarks

1 Bruce Castle

Named after Robert the Bruce, former owner of its grounds, this remarkable Grade-I listed manor house has a long and storied history. Its owners include Henry VIII’s “Groom of the Bedchamber” and Sir Rowland Hill, inventor of the postage stamp. Queen Elizabeth I, Charles Dickens and Charles Babbage all paid visits to the castle. And on its grounds is the magnificent Bruce Castle Oak, runner-up for England’s Tree of the Year in 2018!

2 The Antwerp Arms

A first for North London, a pub owned by the community, for the community. Expect craft ale, a mouthwatering menu and good vibes. Plus, you can be the DJ every Tuesday when it’s BYO vinyl night.

3 The Bluecoats

“The big pub on the high road serving wicked food, showing the football and providing general good vibes,” this cosy indie boozer serves up Time Out’s best burgers in London. It also has a heated garden, regular pop-up nights (Taco Tuesdays! Wing Wednesdays!) and too many beers and ciders to count.

4 BlueRock

A local and much loved Caribbean takeaway. Make sure you go with a big appetite for generous portions of Jollof rice and fried dumplings.

5 Lordship Recreation Ground

'The Rec' is a generous green space with a paddling pool, playground, a BMX track and little woods for all kinds of muddy adventures and make-believe.
