THE OWNERS SAY

We fell in love with our house as soon as we saw the white roses gracing its entryway, the distinct stained glass windows and all the original features with the sun streaming through the central landing. Not to mention the lovely private garden where we've enjoyed sitting outside surrounded by greenery in the warmer months.

We will miss the friendly street, neighbourhood and community in Sydenham. In particular, our daily strolls in beautiful Mayow Park, grabbing coffee and treats at Brown and Green cafe. We also love being close to many wonderful parks: Sydenham Wells and Crystal Palace by foot and a quick hop away: Dulwich Park, Sydenham Woods, and Beckenham Place Park (with its swimming pond and Sunday market not to miss).

We have everything we need on our doorstep – the high street has every convenience you could desire, as well as friendly local pubs, restaurants, and coffee shops. As our next chapter takes us out of London to be closer to family, we will always hold this place very dearly.

BRICKWORKS SAYS

Along a handsome tree-lined street, part of the Thorpes Conservation area in Sydenham, sits a four-bedroom house that exudes character, evident as soon as you see the tiled path and step beneath the arched brickwork entrance.

Inside, its generous footprint is also immediately apparent, with a wide hallway and graceful staircase. Successive owners have carefully restored many of the architectural features, from the ornate stained glass and stripped boards in the hallway, the parquet flooring in the kitchen, and the magnificent fireplaces present in almost every room.

And yet, this isn't a house preserved in time. Updates have been sensitively incorporated, making this a thoroughly modern home. The kitchen is very much at the heart, with space to entertain and a range cooker with a striking black surround. There is a soft, warm palette that runs throughout, extending to the well-proportioned bedrooms – four in total. Outside, the west-facing garden is a glorious mix of mature trees and spots to enjoy the afternoon sunshine.

Kingsthorpe Road is located off the high street in Sydenham, a buzzing corner of South London beloved by locals for its village-like amenities, coffee shops and close proximity to other gems, such as Crystal Palace and Dulwich. It's extremely well connected to the city, with direct lines into London Bridge, Victoria and East London. Still, when you want to escape urban life, you can take five in one of the many green spaces locally.
