We have loved living here and have made it our Mid-Century nook in leafy North London. The expansive windows look out over the trees in our well-maintained communal garden. Head to the top floor of the building for an amazing view of the city.

We love the location, 10 minutes' walk from Crouch End Broadway and Highgate Village, with Waterlow Park at the end of our road. The Parkland Walk nature reserve is less than five minutes away and our block sits near a fantastic wide stretch of it. Being only 15 minutes' walk from the Northern Line is also very handy.

The flat itself (and the block) is beautifully 1960s - look out for the plaque from the original architects who designed numerous lovely buildings around London. We have so many wonderful memories from living here and we’ll be very sad to leave.

Neighbours:
In the building there are 48 flats in total. The block is a mixture of renters and owner-occupiers and all of the apartments are the same size, so they’re either studio or one-bedroom flats. The owners get on very well with their immediate neighbours and generally, the block is quiet and well maintained. There is also an active residents' association and the residents employ the managing agent under a right to manage, which has worked very well.

Recent work:
All the works were carried out just over two years ago in August/September 2021, including changing the space from a studio to a one-bedroom flat. This was done with permission from the freeholder following a report from a structural engineer. A new bathroom and kitchen were fitted and central heating was installed with a new boiler. New carpet was laid in the bedroom, the electrics were updated, the whole flat was painted and the parquet floor was restored.

Getting around:
In this leafy part of London, hop on the Northern line from Highgate or Archway, both about 20 minutes away on foot. Or for the Overground Crouch Hill or Upper Holloway are twenty minutes away on foot. There are also numerous bus routes on Archway Road, Highgate Hill or Hornsey Road heading into central London.

BRICKWORKS SAYS

Whether you’re a fan of Mid-Century Modern design or not, this cute Sixties apartment on the second floor of a well-kept block would make an excellent first home or city crash pad. Complete with a large communal garden and a beautifully maintained lawn, you’d be forgiven for forgetting this spot was in Zone 2 London.

Originally a studio flat, the current owners moved a non-structural wall to create a cosy separate bedroom. The couple repainted the flat throughout in white to really show off those attention-grabbing parquet floors, while the large windows amplify the light and look out over tall, mature trees. A new kitchen sits one side of the open-plan living space while the seating area looks out over the lush and leafy view. Floor-to-ceiling cupboards occupy one large wall providing sought-after storage.

Hornsey Lane is a grand, tree-lined road flanked with impressive Modernist blocks and mansions from various eras and sits neatly between Highgate to the west, Crouch End to the north-east and Finsbury Park to the south. For excellent bites, walk to The Grocery Post via the Parkland Walk for coffee and deli bits or Chango Empanadas on Highgate High Street for - you guessed it - excellent empanadas.
