BRICKWORKS SAYS

It’s not often you can say your home is where music history was made, but this gorgeous apartment has a rock and roll story or two to tell. In its former life as a recording studio, the Clash and Sex Pistols created some classics within these walls, but it's not just its history that makes this flat unique. Starting life as a church hall, The Recording Studio, as it is now known, retains its ecclesiastical bones, most evident in the wooden arches and trusses. And, being situated on the top floor, the space gets the full benefit – with stunning vaulted ceilings in every room, adding exceptional height and character.

The living space feels warm and welcoming, cocooned by the wooden beams. The juxtaposition between old and new has been sympathetically executed, and vast arched windows let light pour in. It's a unique space that perfectly pairs rich history with the joys of modern living.

You quickly appreciate the thoughtful layout of the bedrooms, with one at either end allowing for complete separation, making it ideal for sharers. The guest bedroom enjoys a bank of built-in storage and is closer to the larger bathroom. The principal has a walk-in wardrobe and a compact but ever-so-lovely en suite shower room. The only hesitation is which to take.

Highbury New Park is in a lovely nook of North London. As well as being a stone's throw from the mix of shops on Green Lanes, you're ideally positioned to maximise the delights of several eclectic neighbourhoods, including Newington Green, Highbury Corner and Stoke Newington. Green spaces are also in abundant supply. Two of North London's greatest, Clissold Park and Highbury Fields, are moments away on foot, offering a fresh air fix and much more besides.

THE OWNER SAYS

There is no home like this! Its history is spectacular and is the essence of what makes London great. Built in the Victorian Gothic era, it served as a film school with the likes of Christopher Lee passing through its doors. Then it housed Wessex Studios, founded by Beatles’ producer George Martin. ‘London Calling’ and ‘Never Mind the Buzzcocks’ were recorded here. The ‘stomp - stomp - clap’ of Queen’s ‘We Will Rock You’ was apparently recorded in the space that is now our flat.

The neighbours are a fantastic group of down-to-earth, thoughtful, and considerate people.

The flat is on a tree-lined street built originally for Victorian water canals, which has left a legacy of green and diverse nature, so coming home feels peaceful. The surrounding community is London at its best – accessible, with a local feel and many wonderful places and ways to connect with others. It’s been an absolute dream to live here.
