BRICKWORKS SAYS

Numerous design features capture your attention, but the showstopper has to be the wonderfully spacious open plan living room and dining area. From the living room, step out through the double doors to the impressively sized garden, which is fitted with outdoor lighting and heating, meaning you can make full use whatever the season.

The location is fantastic. A short wander will take you to De Beauvoir’s Southgate Road where you’ll find an adorable strip of shops including a much-loved deli. In the other direction, lies forever-evolving Dalston, which always has something new to offer be it bars, shops or arts events. Transport links are excellent with Dalston Junction and Dalston Kingsland stations moments away, as well as numerous busses for easy access to the centre of town.

THE OWNERS SAY

We loved our home at first sight. Its huge, open plan, high-ceilinged entertaining space is perfect for dinner parties... and now also young children! The whole flat gets filled with natural light, and the dual aspect garden gets both morning and evening sun. Plus, being next to a school the garden is quiet and private on the weekends; the road is well lit and safe.

The area is a foodie’s paradise: from lazy brunches (our favourites include Brunswick East and Allpress), some of the best Sunday roasts around (especially the Talbot and the De Beauvoir Arms) and two local delis (Cifci and the De Beauvoir Deli).

Looking north, Dalston is vibrant and fun. It has a strong sense of community matched with lots of amenities: a cinema, independent boutiques, Ridley Road market and two big supermarkets all within walking distance.

landmarks

1 Arcola Theatre

Make the most of Dalston's cultural canvas by visiting the renowned, community-focused theatre (or the bar of course, which is equally worth a trip).

2 Farrs

Occupying a historic building that once housed a 1930’s dance school, this pub and general hang-out space is hugely atmospheric and a great spot to while away the time drinking, eating and relaxing.

3 Brunswick East

This Aussie-run cafe has an inventive, delicious brunch menu. Doors open at 8 a.m., so you can grab a coffee and a tasty Dusty Knuckle Bakery pastry on the way to work, but food is served all day long.

4 Dalston Eastern Curve Garden

Planted atop what was once the old Eastern Curve Railway line, this community garden is an oasis of green amongst the buzz. With a café kiosk, pizza oven and cosy greenhouse (complete with woodburning stove), it’s a great place to eat, drink and gather—casually or at events ranging from birdwatching and candle-making workshops to festive season singalongs.

5 Rio Cinema

This independent “art deco picture palace” has a storied history, but its real appeal is arthouse and family-friendly fare in a rare and wonderful setting. Come for the film, stay for the new whisky bar, situated conveniently next to Screen 2.
