At the end of a quiet, no-through road in Finchley, perches this modern two-bedroom flat with a strikingly green and peaceful aspect. That’s courtesy of a large decked balcony that opens out from – and breathes light and life into – every room.

The lovely Stephens House and Gardens are next door, Victoria Park is close by, and Finchley Central Underground station is a five-minute walk away. But this space stays truly peaceful, even amidst the whirl of North London.

BRICKWORKS SAYS

You might not expect to find a tranquil haven in such a modern setting in the heart of Finchley, but that’s exactly what this flat delivers. Each of the three main rooms opens onto the decked balcony which runs the length of one side, providing calming views over lawns and gardens.

Thoughtfully refurbished by the current owners, every detail contributes to the sense of serenity and order. The neat, white kitchen with its beautifully contrasting dark, walnut worktops. The accommodating depth and character of the living and dining area. The sheer size of that master bedroom. It all just begs you to stretch out, relax and make yourself at home.

In warmer months, of course, the southeasterly balcony beckons. But even when the air is cooler, it brightens the entire space. And the tiered architecture makes it feel even more private and self-contained. This flat may be built for purpose, but it’s clearly designed to please.

THE OWNER SAYS

The location of this flat is truly special. Hidden away at the end of the road, only a 5 minute from the tube station, you wouldn’t expect to find such a peaceful and serene outdoor area.

We are lucky enough to have a terrace that spans the full length of the flat, with French doors leading outside from every room. The terrace looks out over a quiet, green residential cul-de-sac with little to no noise. This really is a rare find for a London flat.

In the mornings we love opening both doors from the bedroom, letting the light flood in and enjoying a coffee with little to no noise other than the birds. The location of the flat feels safe, quiet, and private, while still being so well connected on the Northern line. It really is our little sanctuary.

We also love our kitchen, which we designed and built to be exactly the way we wanted. We wish we could take it with us!

POINTS TO CONSIDER

The EPC gives a current Energy Efficiency Rating: B & Environmental Impact Rating: B

In Barnet Council, the house falls into Council Tax Band E (£1,888 for 2018/2019).

There are 14 flats in the building. Each flat owner has a share of freehold. In 2017 the current owners extended the flat’s lease to 999 years.

The building has a service charge of £1,500 per annum and collected in two parts (Jan and July). Two commercial units on the ground and first floor contribute a large portion of the service charge.

The kitchen and living room have been remodelled and reconfigured for open-plan living. There are new hardwood floors. New spot lighting has been installed throughout, as has new plumbing to accommodate the laundry closet in the hallway.

The flat comes with a dedicated parking space within the underground car park. Safe, secure and super-handy.

1 The Catcher in the Rye

Every neighbourhood needs a good local and – around these parts – this is our favourite. All the classic pub food bases are covered and there is a wide selection of craft beers & ales. If you want to switch off and have a lazy Sunday afternoon, look no further.

2 Stephens House and Gardens

Henry “Inky” Stephens—of the Stephens Ink Company, naturally—willed this Victorian Grade II listed house and gardens to Finchley Council with the proviso that it “shall be open for the use and enjoyment always of the public.” Wander the beautifully landscaped grounds, grab a bite at Inky’s Stables Café, even sit on a bench next to Spike Milligan (or a bronze version of him, anyway), late great Goon and former president of The Finchley Society.

3 Victoria Park in Finchley

Covering 7 hectres of parkland, Victoria Park has six public tennis courts, Finchley Victoria Bowling and Croquet Club, a clubhouse and a cafe, making it the perfect place to spend a Sunday.

4 Finchley Lido Leisure Centre

Finchley Lido Leisure Centre is a large leisure complex with a swimming pool, cinema, gym, dining, and bowling.

5 Margot Bakery

Opened by local baker Michelle Eshkeri in 2016, Margot Bakery has been serving up delicious sourdough bread, challah, bagels, cakes and pastries to lucky East Finchley fans ever since. Pick up a bite on the way to the station, or request something special for a family breakfast or celebration. The space is lovely, the service is friendly and the bakes are absolutely perfect.
