Snugly situated in Whitehall Park conservation area, between Crouch End and Highgate, is this hidden gem of a four bedroom terraced house with garden. Artfully restored to its Victorian splendour, it doesn’t skimp on comfort, convenience and joy.

Close to Archway station, the house is also within easy reach of shops, cafes and restaurants along Crouch End Broadway. Waterlow Park and the Parkland Walk are nearby, too. And the neighbourhood itself is one of north London’s best-kept secrets: quiet and friendly, yet so close to everything that makes this area such a lovely place to call home.

THE OWNERS SAY

We moved to Whitehall Park in 2000 and love the area. It’s extremely well connected, with Archway tube just around the corner, but above all the melee and pollution.

It’s a short walk from Highgate Village and Waterlow Park, which is ideal for summer picnics. Crouch End – with its bars, restaurants and independent shops – is nearby, too. The street is really friendly, and we’ve made many good friends we’ll be sad to move away from.

We felt lucky to find this house. Restoring it was a labour of love, but it was worth it, as it has looked after us so well!

POINTS TO CONSIDER

The EPC gives a current Energy Efficiency Rating: D & Environmental Impact Rating: E

In the Borough of Islington, the house falls into Council Tax Band F (£2,151 for 2019/2020).

The current owners have done extensive remodelling over the past 13 years, including replacing all the electrics and plumbing, installing a new boiler and radiators, replacing the roof and installing Velux windows. The original kitchen was removed and replaced with a new, bespoke construction.

BRICKWORKS SAYS

There’s something refreshing about a restoration that preserves all the beauty of the past whilst introducing a distinctly cheerful flavour. This home achieves exactly that, with an abundance of style (and a little joie de vivre). All the period staples are here: intricate ceiling coving and roses, sash windows, centrepiece mantels and a sweeping staircase. They form a pretty stage on which daily life unfolds, whether in the colourful shaker kitchen, the formal dining room or the bright reception room.

You can sense the time and care the current owners have invested in this space. Their affection is palpable, and it extends to every nook. Take the terraced garden with its discrete spaces, allowing everyone to have a corner of calm. Clever, practical storage that sits harmoniously alongside Victorian flourishes. Warm, bespoke kitchen cabinetry that keeps the space grounded and homely. It’s a frankly masterful melding of old and new. The kind of thing that takes years to get just right.

We love this vibrant tapas bar in Crouch End for a flavour of contemporary Spain. Particularly impossible to resist is the tortilla Española, which is pretty much perfect in our book.
