This is my first flat and it’s been brilliant. The area is so buzzy; you have the City nearby, Shoreditch’s social life and the fascinating Spitalfields Market on your doorstep, as well as Brick Lane, Redchurch Street and Columbia Road, all within easy walking distance.

2 St Johns Bread & Wine
It’s good to have a restaurant you can rely on for a comfortable interior, good quality, simple food and delicious wine. This place really has stood the test of time, they are consistent in everything they do, and it really works, whether its breakfast lunch or dinner, its all good, particularly the welsh rarebit, and donuts to die for! It’s also very hard not to come out with a bottle of their house red under your arm.
3 Whitechapel Gallery
Exhibitions at this wonderful gallery space are always a bit more on the challenging and risque side, which makes it a fab place to experience art, from the great masters to emerging new talent. For more than a century this beautiful gallery has premiered exhibitions from world-class modern masters such as Picasso, Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko and Frida Kahlo, to contemporaries such as Sophie Calle, Lucien Freud, Gilbert & George and Mark Wallinger. Always welcoming, with great talks and gatherings going on as well. The bookshop is small but there's always a gem to find and after that you can have a very decent coffee and bite to eat in the cafe...oh and its free entry.
4 Columbia Road Flower Market
A bona fide institution, and by far the most colourful market in London, the flower market at Columbia Road kicks off at 8 every Sunday morning and wraps up around 3. (Pro tip: You can get fantastic two-for-£10 bunches towards the end of the day.) Browse stall after stall of beautiful blooms while popping into the shops along Columbia Road—all of which are independently owned. For pre-market fuel, hit World Barista Champion Gwilym Davies’s coffee cart on Ezra Street, just behind the market.
5 Campania & Jones
This small, family run Italian restaurant is just off Columbia Road and is AMAZING. Set within a beautiful old dairy it is easily one of the most special places in the area. Indeed – we think – anywhere in London. We won't say any more, just GO. OK?
